Does parenting need to be taught

Parenting –isn’t it something we are all supposed to do by instinct? After all, generations have raised children without the help of articles, books, or workshops. So, do we really need to talk about parenting? Yes, we do!! We might all be parenting on what we think is instinct but it is really beliefs and...

Is there such thing as bad parenting

In a recent interview, I was asked this question,” Is there such a thing as bad parenting?” It made me think. Does being a parent educator give me a right to define a person as a good or bad parent? Can anyone have an opinion on what kind of parenting helps or harms a child?...

Language and Child Development

Language is one of the most fascinating human capacities. Charles Darwin, in his book “The Descent of Man” says that man has an instinctive tendency to speak, as we see in the babble of our young children; whilst no child has an instinctive tendency to bake, brew or write. If that’s the case, why are...

Children are nurtured when parents feel supported

A SOCIETY’S ROLE IN SUPPORTING PARENTS There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children. Nelson Mandela These words invite us all to think about how we, as a society, treat children. Let us take this question a step further. What do we as a...

He attended a talk for parents held in his office on the “Remodeling of the teenage brain.” Neetu’s kids were fighting a lot and her friend suggested...

Take a Pause and Tame Anger

Reena had read the article ‘Understanding the Backstory’, which suggested that during a conflicting situation between parent and child, the parent take a pause and try to map all the events that had occured to get an in depth picture of what may be happening in the child’s life. Understanding what caused the outburst would...

Are you protecting your children or limiting them?

Imagine a three-and-a-half-year-old, in school, trying to put on his shoes and secure them with the velcro. The adult in the class sees him bending over and almost losing his balance, so she quickly does it for him. The next day, someone thoughtfully puts a low stool near the doorway, the child sits on it...

The challenging task of saying No!

What was your child’s first word? Mama? Baba? Dada? Or was it… No?! It is amusing to hear when parents share that their child’s first word was ‘No’. It also lends to reflection. The word ‘no’ in varying tones, figures dominantly in a parents’ vocabulary especially in the first few years of the child’s life....

The Beauty of S…L…O…W

When we think about our childhood, and our relationship with time, we remember that we never liked being rushed. And yet regretfully, that is what we do today, to our children. We might feel helpless when we hear that we need to “slow down” because we know that in order to survive in this world...

Parenting in the fast paced world

Parenting today is full of anxiety especially in the light of advancement in the cyber space. Just a couple of months back, the news was abuzz with dangers youngsters are exposed to because of the Blue Whale Challenge. This news made parents and teachers sit up and question how safe our children really are while...

A Short, Crisp n On-point course for parents of tweens n teens. I joined this course, not because I was facing any issues. This course enables parents to be more empathetic and understanding of their kids and their issues. I personally highly recommend this course.

Parenting Matters - the 8 week program has brought in immense changes in me, which are practically possible. There are times which the session made me realize and recognize the patterns and with the changes proactively made, I am able to see a new type of Parent in me, and the parenting journey is never a destination, it's a journey. At times, it shall b chaotic, messy, but with the tools and Mindfulness learnt frm the session, parenting is inspiring and awesome fr me to engage my kid actively and healthily...many thanks to the facilitator Seema who actively and positively made us engage and also listened to our queries and answered us positively then and there...A worthy session as a gift to parents.

I began searching for Parent Counseling sessions online when I realised there are very few dedicated Centres like Parenting Matters that deal with one on one parenting sessions. The concept of Be your Childs life coach resonated woth me and I enrolled for their 5-10 age group sessions Seemanthini was our Group Mentor and I have to tell you that she took us through various sessions very patiently. It wasn't just about solving problems at hand but also tools to understand your child adequately, identify and address the root cause - with a realisation that one needs to be regulated first. It has made a world of difference to my approach with my child and some tricks work like magic :) I wholeheartedly thank Seemanthini and the entire team for taking on all the efforts, keeping oneselves updated with the latest on managing child psychology. It helps that they keep checking on you and it fosters that confidence that they have your back! Thank you once again and iblook forward to future sessions with you!
